In CELPIP Speaking Task 1, you’re asked to give helpful advice in everyday situations. In this topic, your friend is moving to a new city for work but feels nervous. Your job is to respond naturally, show empathy, and give clear, supportive suggestions within 60–90 seconds.
Your friend is planning to move to a new city for a job, but they are nervous about leaving their hometown. What advice would you give them?
Hi! I totally understand how you feel-it’s completely normal to be nervous about leaving your hometown. Moving to a new place can be a big change, but also a really exciting one.
My advice would be to focus on the opportunities ahead. You’ll meet new people, explore a new environment, and grow professionally. A few years ago, I moved to a different city for my first job, and although it felt uncomfortable at first, I adapted quickly. That experience helped me become more independent and confident.
Try to look at this move as a fresh start. Keep in touch with your old friends and family to feel supported, but also allow yourself to enjoy the new beginning. I’m sure you’ll do great and feel at home in no time!
